Welcome to The Zeitgoose, Waterloo's anonymous student-run newspaper! Here, anyone can anonymously submit articles about anything they deem interesting to the Waterloo student to be seen by all with no institutional oversight. If you have something to say, sign up and post it!
Article Guidelines
Though The Zeitgoose is not beholden to the rules of any other organization, we have a few guidelines to keep the newspaper enjoyable to read and useful to all.
1) Don't spam. Make sure what you post is valuable to others.
2) Be nice. Don't attack anyone, don't reveal secrets. Reasonable criticism is allowed, though it tends not to be mean in the first place.
3) No politics. As much as I value freedom of speech, I won't allow politics on this newspaper because, to put it bluntly, it's horribly polarizing, unpleasant to read, and I know I wouldn't want to host some political ideas people hold. Also, this way, you can be sure this newspaper isn't biased for or against some political interest - how can there be bias if there's no politics? That being said, I will allow broader discussions about society that don't involve some particular political happenings of our time.
4) Please categorize your article correctly. See below list of article categories.
All articles will manually approved by yours truly before they appear on the news feed.
Article Categories
- News - an article about interesting recent events. Should report facts as they are, with as little bias as possible.
- Opinion - an article stating and explaining the author's opinion on some topic. As the name implies, personal opinions are acceptable.
- Promo - an article used to promote something. Requests for help also fall under this category.
- Entertainment - an article meant for entertainment. Realistically, I expect this to be mostly memes, but maybe someone will publish a serial? Who knows?
- Uncategorized - for articles that don't fit into any of the above. In the future, I might add more categories if a lot of articles end up uncategorized.
Namesake
"Zeitgoose" is a play on the word zeitgeist, which means spirit of the time. Also, zeit means time in German, so you can read "The Zeitgoose" as "The Goose Times".
